photo editing and compositing to produce numerous unique silhouette profiles from which eight final selections were made. the overall process I devised consisted of having 72 participants photographed in high contrast (photos: stephen keen) then dividing their silhouettes into six strata each in order to mix and match facial features to end up with a set of completely unique profiles to be used as the basis for the final sculpture. A total of 156,238,908 combinations were possible using this method — for the public art sculpture entitled presence to be sited at the public safety building in salt lake city, utah.
